Will PhotoEditor run on Mono (http://www.mono-project.com/Main_Page) or Grasshopper (http://dev.mainsoft.com/)?

We'd be interested in purchasing PhotoEditor for use on our site, but we don't run a Windows platform. Either Mono or Grasshopper seems like it would be a good choice as an alternative. Has anyone tried deploying PhotoEditor in this fashion?

Thanks for the help!

Hello Chris,

Unfortunately PhotoEditor depends on some unmanaged code, that's why it is not cross-platform compatible. Hopefully we have only a few of native code, so way we will think about porting PhotoEditor to Mono/Grasshopper platforms.

I keep an eye on Mono/Grasshopper progress, but their are about one year behind of Microsoft development. Mono and Grasshopper shares ASP.NET stack code, but only in January 2007 Mainsoft has announced full ASP.NET 2.0 support. At that time as Microsoft released ASP.NET Ajax 1.0, which is actually one of the main part of future ASP.NET release. So way I just want to say, that in order to be Mono/Grasshopper compatible, we should use only base old API. Actually it is the most important reason why we have not ported our web software to these platforms yet.

Best regards,

Fedor Skvortsov
