Hi,

We are using Aurigma.GraphicsMill, Version=5.0.82.0, in our WPF Windows application for image cropping etc.

We have found that when our app is running some of our users often experience Outlook and other Microsoft Office apps freezing. When our app closes, the frozen app will instantly start responding.

We are working with a Microsoft consultant to resolve this issue, but his current theory based on various memory dump files is that a call to NTUserChangeClipboardChain is trying to post a message to our WPF window and that it hangs because it isn't processed.

Our Windbg dumps suggest that it is Quicktime dlls that are registering the clipboard viewer (NtUserSetClipboardViewer) and are possibly causing the hang. And it seems that Quicktime is only used because it is part of Aurigma.

Do you have any recommendations for us?
Have you heard of this issue before?
Would an upgrade of GraphicsMill dlls make any difference?
Is there a way to run Aurigma GraphicsMill dlls without Quicktime dlls being loaded?

Hello,

I recommend you to update you version of Graphics Mill to the last one, which is available to download on our website. You need to install it on your machine, and replace assemblies of GM 5.0.82 with new ones of GM 5.5.6. It should help to resolve the problem.

Please perform it, and let me know about your results.

Is there any basis for believing it will be fixed with the latest version, or is this just your standard response?

I will happily upgrade to the latest version, but this is a very difficult problem to replicate on demand, so it would be helpful to hear your thoughts on the issue.

Cameron,

I assume it is caused by memory leak. We have experience some problems with it in the previous versions of Graphics Mill including 5.0. Therefore, I recommended you to update it to version 5.5.6. This version is free of this problem.

Ok. Thanks.

We are currently testing using the latest version (5.5.6), but I have an additional question.

We have noticed that if QuickTime is installed on a machine then the QuickTime dlls get loaded in by Aurigma. If not, they don't.

Since our problem seems to be related to QuickTime, and Aurigma seems to work perfectly well without QuickTime dlls being loaded, can you explain why QuickTime gets loaded by Aurigma and if there is a way to use GraphicsMill on a machine with QuickTime installed without it loading up the dlls?

Regards,
Cameron

Hello Cameron,

I tried to replicate the problem with QuickTiem dlls. Unfortunately, I could not get the same result as you. I have installed QuickTime on my machine. I created simple Win application based on Graphics Mill. Then I run it. No loaded QuickTime’s dlls were found.

Please clarify whether you base your app on Media Processor add-on which can load any dlls. If not, please describe on which Graphics Mill controls your application is based on.

No, we don't use Media Processor Add-ons.

I can recreate the situation using the Main Demo installed with Aurigma. On a machine with QuickTime, I will see the dlls imported in Process Explorer, but on other machines without QuickTime they are not there.

Hello Cameron,

I tried to reproduce this problem on two different test machines (Windows XP and Windows 7). I installed QuickTime, downloading it from Apple site. Then I installed the latest version of Graphics Mill 5.5.6, and run Main Demo. I did not find no QuickTine dlls in Processes.

Please clarify whether you test GM 5.5.6.

How strange. I see the QuickTime dlls loaded in both XP and Windows 7.

Yes, we are using GraphicsMill 5.5.6.

It is just the standard QuickTime that you download from Apple.

I wonder why we see QuickTime dlls injected into Aurigma and you don't? Think

Hello Cameron,

I finally reproduced this problem with loading QuickTime’s dlls using Process Explorer tool. I posted a report about this problem in our bug tracker. Our developers will fix it in the next release of Graphics Mill. Sorry for this inconvenience.
