Hello,

We have a customer that reports the following error whenever he loads our upload page with the "Image Uploader - Dual" software:

Quote:
Internet Explorer has closed this webpage to help protect your computer
A malfunctioning or malicious add-on has caused Internet Explorer to close this webpage.

What you can do:
Go to your home page
Try to return to [redacted]
More information

Windows Data Execution Prevention detected an add-on trying to use system memory incorrectly. This can be caused by a malfunction or a malicious add-on.

We updated to the latest (6.5.6) version of the software, but it did not resolve the issue. The customer indicated that he is running IE8 and Windows XP and that the error appears after the page attempts to load for a few seconds.

Are you aware of any conflicts that would cause this or steps we can take to fix it?

Thank you,
Michael

Hello Michael,

I just investigated this problem. On different forums many people experienced the same problem and fixed it using browser settings:

Goto Internet Explorer -> Tools -> Internet Options -> Advanced -> Scroll down to Security -> Uncheck “Enable memory protection to help mitigate online attacks*”
Close all browser windows and restart the browser.

Tamila,

Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately, that solution only addresses the symptom and doesn't deal with the apparent memory errors caused by the software. Our customers are not likely to appreciate being told they'll have to lower their browser security settings to use our site. Some may not be able to, due to policy requirements of their workplace.

Are the developers looking into this?

Thank you,
Michael

Hi Michael,

Unfortunately we can only guess about the reasons, more probably the cause in some old DEP incompatible add-in already installed within IE7 or earlier. It is very hard to investigate because all third party add-ins we suspected are up to date and we cannot get 2-3 years old version of XXX control for testing. So we have never seen this problem inside our environment.

But I can say for sure that current versions of Image Uploader are DEP compatible.

You can recommend your customer to update/disable all other IE add-ins or install IU through redistributable setup.

See these posts for more information:

Problem with IE 8 and version 5,5,6,0
