I'm assuming this is some sort of security setting in IE but I can't find it.

If i run my site as http://127.0.0.1:8080 the upload control works fine.

If however i run the site as http://testdomain/ i get a popup telling me the html5 uploader is not supported in this browser.

Can someone tell me what IE setting i need to change to allow this to work?

IE11 and windows 8.1

I believe it may happen if your IE emulates old version (like IE8). Check out the following:

1. If you are using the correct DOCTYPE (<!DOCTYPE html>)
2. Whether you have <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=edge,chrome=1"/> on your page.
3. You have the compatibility option for internal websites disabled in your IE settings (gear icon on the right -> Compatibility View settings -> clear Display intranet sites in Compatibility View checkbox).
