I am using the Image Uploader 5.0.15.0. It was tested with XP/IE 6.0 and was working with no issues.

But some of my users, who are running Vista, are reporting the following issue:

“When the Java-based Image Uploader tries to load, only a large gray box stating “Image Uploader” appears.”

Please, advise

Hello,

What is JRE version installed on your user’s machine? Perhaps JRE upgrading could resolve the problem.

Eugene,

I think you can implement JRE version check in iuembed.js. It could help to eliminate this problem.

What do you think?

The uploader crashes Firefox on Vista - settings below:

C:\Users\Jeff>java -version
java version "1.6.0-oem"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0-oem-b104)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.6.0-oem-b104, mixed mode, sharing)

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-GB; rv:1.8.1.11) Gecko/20071127 Firefox/2.0.0.11

Any ideas? Runs OK on IE as an ActiveX control.

Hello jeff,

What version of Image Uploader do you use?
Also, have you experienced this issue on several machines or on single machine?
Best regards,
George Ulyanov

Also - I've only got one Vista machine to test it on... It's fine on IE. Just FireFox is giving me grief.

Hello Jeff,

I have found a special test page on Sun site to check if JRE is properly installed on the clients computer. I have posted information about it here. Your client could use it to check is there is everything OK with his JRE. Hope this page is helpful for you. It could help to solve "Grey box" problem.

If JRE is correctly installed and the problem is not solved, there could be another problem which I found few days ago. Thanks to Arthur for a bug report and for help in solving it. He reported that on his Vista+Firefox Image Uploader is not shown correctly. Java console shows buffer overflow. We have fixed this problem and will release the fix shortly. You could send Java console dump for us to check if you have the same problem. In this case we could send you the fixed version immediately.
Sincerely yours,
Alex Makhov
