ImageUploader 5 dual

This problem is being reported by several of my users - unfortunately I haven't had enough information returned to say exactly which browsers this affects. It's also intermittent - and I can't recreate the problem.

One report from Macintosh Safari 1.3.2 (v312.6), 5 other reports

Symptoms: the images are uploaded with 3 thumbnails

To fit areas of 120px, 300px and 600px

Instead of the image being uploaded a small 16x16 px icon of a page is sent.

Any ideas?

http://img5.travelblog.o...--Sivananda-ashram-0.jpg

Is an example of the icon.

My users on Mac OS X 10.4.11, Firefox 2.0.0.11, IU 5.0.15.0 experience the exact same issue. I can't upgrade if it does not work!

Hello Ali and Steve,

Does it occur with any image? Is it possible to submit case with a couple example images so that we could test it?

Yes, it occurs with all images that I have tested, which are .jpg. Here is one you can try:

Hello,

The image that you have posted has most likely been resized to the smaller size thus I have successfully uploaded its thumbnail via Image Uploader. Could you post the link to download the original image?
Sincerely yours,

It was one that I resized manually, outside of IU.

Nonetheless, here is another image to try:

I haven't been able to recreate the problem (no access to a mac) - Steve; glad it's not just my implementation of this!

A second user has confirmed that they use a Mac - but didn't send the browser version as requested! - no hope of a java console output from my sites membership - 99% not technical.

Hello,

As Image Uploader for Java has known problems with large images, we have made special properties to process a situation when Image Uploader failed to create a thumbnail. In Image Uploader 4.x there was a UploadThumbnailNNFallbackMode property when you could make Image Uploader send original file when it failed to make a thumbnail. In Image Uploader 5.x there is more smart UploadThumbnailNNCompressionMode property which allows to specify more variants of compression according to file mask. Please try to use it for your purposes.

I've made the suggested changes - but unfortunately my users are still experiencing this problem intermittently.

Last message:

"I attempted to add downsized versions of pictures, at a small size of 56 KB
and some would work, some would have the same problem as before. THe
pictures I was adding previously were larger. I am using Safari OSX Leopard,
MAC."

Getting information from the java console from my users is almost impossible - they are not at home and scattered across the world.

The images generally are coming direct from digital cameras - 3mp - 12mp - and this problem is only reported from Mac users so far.

Any more ideas?

Hello,

May be your clients could make a screenshot of Java console? We really need it to find the reason of the problem.
Sincerely yours,

Hello,

Java console says that upload processing script worked fine (error code 200). What problem was there? Does you upload processing script return 200 even if any error occur?
By the way,
Code:
iu.addParam("diary_id", "237426");

There is no such property diary_id in Image Uploader. If you want this field to be sent with POST request, use BeforeUpload event handler and AddField method.

Sincerely yours,
Alex Makhov

The images are uploaded as icons.

> iu.addParam("diary_id", "237426");

Will this cause the icon upload problem - instead of an image?

(if not please ignore it - the parameter is passed through fine on the get)

I do not have a mac - I can not recreate this problem - it's been reported by Mac users several times.

Have you been able to recreate this problem?

Have you tried the parameters below with a mac of that version with any images?

Just like to add that I believe the symptoms described here are similar to the symptoms I've discovered, and which I've described in this thread:

Hello,

We have reproduced the rotate problem along with one thumbnail generation problem. We have fixed it and the new version (5.0.30.0) with the fix will be available at the nearest time (I believe, tomorrow).

We just had a report of a Mac user with this problem. Upgrading to 5.0.30.0 did NOT fix the problem.

The thumbnails generated by 5.0.15.0 are here:

http://create.realestate...photos8/0000250246/orig/

The thumbnails generated by 5.0.30.0 are here:

http://create.realestate...photos8/0000250432/orig/

The user in question is on a Mac, running OSX Leopard 10.5.1, on Safari.

Hello Rebecca

As I said in some topic before, Image Uploader for Java currently has some problems with large image thumbnail generation. We have some ideas about how to fix it but it will take few weeks to make Image Uploader for Java generate thumbnails for large images.
Sincerely yours,
Alex Makhov

Well, when you say something like:

Quote:

When you say that you have fixed a thumbnail generation problem in a thread wholly devoted to people complaining about thumbnail generation...then you'll have to excuse me for thinking that the bug you fixed was the one being complained about.

This is now the third bug that we've had to deal with in this new version. No offense, but maybe you guys should have done a little more beta-testing before putting it live. My company is using this software on a production site, with paying customers, who are irate at all these problems. We are getting a couple reports of this Mac bug every day. Hearing that a fix will come in a "few weeks" really isn't acceptable.
