Hello Everyone!

We scheduled to release Image Uploader 4.0 in September 2005.

Its main improvements will be support of multithreaded parallel upload, as well as high-speed JPEG2000 based image transfer.

What other features would you like to see in next version?

Great news!!

We'd like to have a built-in text Watermark feature, just with 2 parameters:

1- watermark = whaever text we would like to put over the image.

2- position = top, middle, bottom

that would be great!

Can you explain what does it mean: multithreaded parallel upload and high-speed JPEG2000 based image transfer?

Means that Image Uploader will be able to send several files simultaneously.

We are considering adding possibility to use JPEG2000 compression instead of JPEG. The advantage is that JPEG2000 has much better compression ratio and therefore the upload speed will be increased. But from the other side you need to convert JPEG2000 to some web-compatible image format at the server (e.g. using Graphics Mill for .NET).

If you are changing the upload method, I would like to see socket-based uploading instead of the Internet Explorer posting method. I have voiced this concern before:

The posting method is simply too slow; the 8KB default buffer isn't enough. I hope this is workable for 4.0. Some of our users have employed the registry hack to increase speed, but this is not only dangerous, but it is also an extra step they should not have to do.

Hey Fedor,

Will v4.0 include the ability for a user to move (drag and drop) photos in the third panel into a different order (both for a single file and multiple file?) ie photo 1 is in position 1, photo 2 is in position 2 and photo 3 in position 3 - will a user be able to move photo 3 into position bumping photo 1 into position 2 and photo 2 into position 3?

This is something I mentioned a few months ago.

Another suggestion - currently users can drag and drop photos into the 3 panel to add. Would it also be possible for users to be able to drag 1 or multiple images from the 3rd panel to remove them from the upload list?

Here is screenshot of concurrent upload in upcoming Image Uploader 4.0 for ActiveX.

Version 4.0 allows to upload in several threads to one or multiple URLs, which can be located on different servers even.

When you say multiple-thread, what exactly do you mean?

If I understand right, the user will be able to upload several files simultaneously without affecting the upload speed, correct?

So, in other words, if we use the following parameter:

It will create 10 different threads, so the uploading time will be the same as if we upload 1 image, is this correct?

No, there will be another property named MaxConnectionCount which means the maximum number of concurrent connections. In the previous screenshot FilesPerOnePackageCount=1 and MaxConnectionCount=3.

Release Candidate will be available on this week. The final version will be available not later then on May 23-24.

Samples for ASP, ASP.NET (VB.NET and C#), ColdFusion, JSP, PHP, Perl, Python, Ruby are 90% completed, reference is 100% finished, and right now we are focused on careful testing on different platforms.

According to Alex, the first screenshot of this page is using the following parameters:

FilesPerOnePackageCount=1

MaxConnectionCount=3.

This means that the upload process will create 3 threads and the upload time will be faster than the version 3.5 that only allows 1 thread, is this correct?

Basically I'd like to know if this multi-thread feature will increase the speed of the upload process? And if so, how much faster will be than version 3.5?

It will only speed it up in the sense that while one connection is waiting for a server response upon completion of a file, one of the other connections will still be uploading. If you are currently saturating your upload bandwidth during the actual transfer period you will not burst any faster. If you are sharing a network connection with other people you will be able to take up more of it since you will have multiple connections, but the cap is the cap.
