setFolderView on Java version and many images/large images problem

I have encountered two problems with the Java version

I find that when i use the setFolderView() function to change between the list view and Thumbnail view - immediately afterward, i am unable to change folders.
I am using the two-pane view.
What happens is the following:
1. I select a folder with images.
2. I click the button i've created to switch to the List view.
3. It works (showing list view).
4. I click on a different folder in the tree - nothing changes in the upload pane - no matter what other folder i select - until i click the button to switch to thumbnail or list view (doesn't matter, just has to change). Then the files in the folder show up in the upload view.

I have people reporting a problem with the Java version that if they have large images or hundreds in one folder - the image uploader in thumbnail view either crashes (because their computers run out of memory) or hangs and only becomes usable after a long time (up to 15 minutes).
A quick solution i thought would be to show the list view and give them the option to switch to the thumbnail view. But then i encountered the above problem.

Do you know if you have a fix for this list view - or if the new java version of IU will have the large image/many image problem resolved?

I am using Java IU v. 1.1.81.0
I load the image uploader using the activeX/Java compatible script (iuembed.js)
