The thumbnail quality (when set to default = 96 or for 70 or any other value) is poor. Please note that I am referring to the thumbnail - PreviewThumbnailSize

With version 2.5 we got much better thumbnails.

Image Uploader 3.0 has totally rewritten fast and memory-friendly thumbnail generation mechanism. Previous version of Image Uploader loaded entire original image to memory and then scaled down it for creating thumbnail. Image Uploader 3.0 generates thumbnails 2 ways:

1. If image contains EXIF then it extracts embedded EXIF thumbnail. In this case you receive as good quality as before.

2. For image without EXIF it creates thumbnail while reading image from file, so it never consume extra memory. In this case Image Uploader doesn't support interpolation during resizing, which causes thumbnail low quality. We will improve quality to next release.

No, right now. Could you say you why do you need it?

EXIF thumbnail has limited size (usually not large then 160x120), so way whether it is possible for desired thumbnail size we use EXIF data, otherwise we generate thumbnail from entire image.
