Hello,
We keep a database driven log of our uploaded files and we came across a strange phenomenon. 64% of the time, TIF files that have been uploaded are, on average, 3 times as large as the original file size! I am not sure which upload method that was used as we don’t log this. (We are currently changing our logging to include the upload method.) Any idea as to why this would be occurring?
Thank you, Jason DiMeo

Hello Jason, Uploaded source files (SourceFile_NN) could not be larger than the originals because that are only the copies. As for thumbnails (UploadThumbnail1_NN), it is possible. Image Uploader reads image from the file and then compresses it according to appropriate settings. So if your TIFF file has been made as a low quality copy of some original image, it could have a very low size. But when Image Uploader reads this TIFF file image it recompresses this image with JPEG quality usually set to 100% that’s why thumbnail could be bigger than the original file. That is a reason of the problems. Edited by user Sunday, February 24, 2008 5:56:20 PM(UTC)
