I tried to connect my receipt printer that is shared over the network, but I did not succeed. The printer is installed, I can see it in "printers and faxes" (as a shared printer on another computer) but I cannot choose it as receipt printer in configuration tool?

List of printers in the Printer name field is defined by the list of installed printers on your machine (including shared network printers). Please check whether this network printer is displayed in the device list of machine where Photo Kiosk is installed (open Control Panel->Devises and Printers and look through the list of all shared printers). Your printer should be in this list. If it is not so, please try to re-install shared printer, and Photo Kiosk as well.

The receipt printer is in the list on the computer where Photo Kiosk is installed on. I am able to print a test page from this computer on the receipt printer on the other computer. I tried reinstalling Photo Kiosk by using the "repair" option. Photo Kiosk only shows the "Microsoft XPS printer" by default and when I click the drop down menu, nothing will show but an empty box. I also tried reboot, but no succes.

Any thoughts?

Hello,

Please follow these instructions:

  1. Remove Photo Kiosk;

  2. Remove network printer;

  3. Add printer to the devices anew;

  4. Rename printer trough Printer Property. Keep some short name without umlaut letters;

  5. Install Photo Kiosk on your machine;

  6. Check that you run Photo Kiosk as the same user who has print permissions;

  7. Open Configuration Tool, Photo Printer tab, and try to choose your printer.

Then please let me know about your results.

So far it did not work. I also tried to do it on the second kiosk and also tried to use another printer. In all cases I am unable to select these printers. I can only select printers that are attached to the computer itself.

Sorry that the problem is not resolved yet.

Unfortunately, we could not replicate similar problem in our testing lab with network printers.

Please try to add your printer manually:

  1. open PhotoKiosk.config (typically C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Aurigma\PhotoKiosk\2.5);

  2. set the key ReceiptPrintingEnabled to true;

  3. specify the printer name in the ReceiptPrinterName key.

Hi Dmitry ,

I tried, but then it gives an error like “receipt could not be printed...”

The name of the receipt printer on the host machine (=KASSA1) is “STAR”

On the computer that runs the kiosk software it is displayed as “STAR on KASSA1” (in WindowsXP)

In properties it says “StarTSP1”

I tried all three names but no success.

In all three cases of the error the names were displayed in the configurator: it displays that this printer is chosen, but it is not visible in the drop down menu: unable to choose it. Only printers that are physically attached to that computer are displayed.

Am I doing something wrong?

Hello Glen,

I made tests today trying to replicate this problem again. I took machine where just installed Windows XP. Then I added our network printer, and installed needed driver. After that I installed Photo Kiosk 2.5.4.

I opened Configuration tolls -> Receipt Pinter -> Printer Name. There were two printer names: the first printer is Microsoft printer, the second one is Xerox 6110 (our shared printer).

Could you please check another machine to test Photo Kiosk?

The network printers that are shared via a hub or switch are displayed, but it seems that shared printers attached with an USB cable to another computer are not displayed in the Configuration Tool.

I am sorry for this delay. I made extra tests with Photo Kiosk installed on Windows XP and shared printer. Unfortunately, I got nothing with reproducing this problem. Printer was in the list of devices, and in the drop-down list of receipt printers in the configurations of Kiosk. I tried different names of printer including “STAR on KASSA 1” – Photo Kiosk detected this printer.

I looked at your screen shots. It is very strange. Actually, we have never got the similar complaints from our users.

Glen, please clarify whether you tested another machines? If it works there fine, I will be able to offer a radical method – re-install Windows XP on machine where this problem occurs.

Hi Dmitry,

Sorry for the delay. Last time I tried, I tried on another machine with XP (with a demo version of the kiosk software). I think I have a solution for now: I will attach the printer to my network storage drive that may function as a print server (or I will get a simple printserver). I expect the printer to be shown in the softeware, like other network printers.
