Hi,
I'm trying to capture the XP Title and Comment EXIF data from an uploaded Image. The hex codes for these fields are 0x9c9b and 0x9c9c. Please could you let me know what descriptor these would be sent through as (I have tried ExifXPTitle and ExifWindowsXPTitle)
Alternatively, am I able to access EXIF data from the hex code directly?
Using Image Uploader 4.7.0.

Hello George, I checked EXIF 2.2 specification, unfortunately it does not contain the hex tags you specified. There are the following tags in EXIF: Quote:
Tag Name, Field Name, Hex, Image Uploader Constant
Image Title, ImageDescription, 10E, ExifImageDescription
User Comment, UserComment, 9286, ExifUserComment
You can list these constants in ExtractExif property in Image Uploader to upload field values to a server. See the reference on ExtractExif property for detailed information. |

Is there anyway at all to access these EXIF fields directly from their hex codes rather than depending on the constant that doesn't exist?
These EXIF fields are the fields that get set when you edit the Title and Comments via the Properties tab of an image in XP so, although not standard EXIF fields, they are heavilly used.

Hello George, Unfortunately you cannot specify tags by their numeric identifiers, you need to specify them by values listed in the documentation. Regarding your question about image meta-data added in Windows Photo Gallery, Windows stores addtitional information not in EXIF/IPTC tags but in XMP. This metadata type is not supported in Image Uploader. We will add this feature in one of the future versions. Dmitry attached the following image(s): |

Thanks Dmitry, But I wasn't talking about the Windows Photo Gallery but the standard Windows Explorer in XP. When you right click a photo in your My Pictures folder, select properties, and then the summary tab, you can edit these fields directly: Screenshot: http://www.getjealous.com/screenshot.gifThanks, George

Hello George, Thanks for your answer. These metadata is displayed not in Windows Photo Gallery only but in image properties in Explorer of Windows Vista too. I tried to add these metadata in Windows XP as you suggested, it really stores these data in EXIF. It means that Windows Vista and Windows XP stores these data in different ways. Hi Guys,
It has been nearly 2 years since I opened this thread and it still isn't possible to access Exif field 0x9c9b from an uploaded file. It isn't even preserved in the thumbnail when asking to preserve exif data.
Although not an official EXIF field in the standard specification, it is used by explorer in Windows XP, Vista, and Windows 7.
To try this, just go to the File Explorer, right click an image and select properties. Go to the Details tab and change the Title. (There is also a Subject field which is stored in 0x9c9f).
Since you already parse the Exif data, I don't know why you aren't giving us access to these fields that are used by so many windows users?

It makes sense what you are saying about. We have this feature in wish list. It definitely will be added to the product in one of Image Uploader 7 releases. |
